Abstract

1333150 Work clamps WILTON CORP (J Rogers) 25 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 5438/71 Heading B3B A work holding device comprises a housing 10 having an opening 17 therein, a bearing member 15, e.g. a ball, rotatably mounted in said housing in said opening, a workpiece gripping member 13 slidably mounted in said bearing member, and actuating means 25 in said housing, said actuating means being operable to linearly slide said gripping member 13 relatively to said bearing member 15 so that said gripping member projects from said housing through said opening, and to rotate said bearing member 15 relative to the housing so as to rotate the gripping member angularly with said bearing member to grip a workpiece 12. The actuating means comprises a fluid pressure operated piston and rod 25, 26 that firstly operates a cam 30 which bears on a cross pin 33 to move the gripping member linearly and, on continued movement, secondly engages a cam 36 that acts to angularly rotate the gripping member.
