Abstract

1332724 Cyclone separators; pneumatic vibratory classifier R A FORSBERG 12 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1450/71 Headings B2P and B2H A closed circuit air cleaning arrangement comprises a materials processing apparatus, e.g. a pneumtic and vibratory classifier 10, Fig. 5, through which air is moved for processing the materials, the air being dust-laden at the exhaust 11 from the apparatus which has a housing to confine the air; a fan 13, Fig. 3, for moving the air through the processing apparatus; and a cyclone-type air cleaner 25, Fig. 3, having an inlet for receiving the dustladen air from the processing apparatus and having an air outlet 27 for delivering cleaned air to the processing apparatus for re-use. The classifier 10 has a perforated supporting deck 18 to which materials M to be classified are delivered via a duct 22 and a spreader 22a and which is oscillated through linkage powered by a motor 23. The cleaned air from the outlet 27 of the cyclone passes into a plenum chamber formed by a housing 24 containing the cyclone and the fan and is returned via a conduit from an outlet 24a in the housing 24 to an inlet 16 in the apparatus 10 where it flows upwardly through the perforated deck 18 thereby stratifying the materials M into several layers. The heaviest materials forming the lowest layer are discharged via a spout 21 and heavy and light materials are discharged through spouts 19 and 20 respectively. The dust is entrained with the air which is sucked via the outlet pipe 11 by the fan 13 and delivered to the cyclone 25. The cyclone air outlet 27 has a lower slotted portion 27.2 constituted by vanes 27.5 through which the air flows in the same direction as through the interior of the cyclone. The cyclone has a dust removing air lock 29 operated by a motor 30 which is connected by a chain drive 31 to a belt conveyor 32 which receives the dust discharged from the air lock. In another arrangement, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), a two-stage cyclone is used.
