Abstract

1332438 Moulding plastics articles STANLEY PLASTICS Ltd and P W STANLEY 26 Nov 1970 [26 Nov 1969] 57911/69 Heading B5A In a method of casting articles of synthetic polymeric material, especially of polymethylmethacrylate, an inner core is fabricated from polymelthymethacrylate sheet material e.g. "Perspex" (R.T.M.) and is supported within an outer mould, the cavity so defined being filled with a slurry of synthetic polymer forming casting material; polymerization of the monomeric content of the slurry produces a casting of which the core is an integral part. The outer mould may be metal or a non-metallic flexible material-if the same material as the core and casting is used, the outer mould may also be retained as an integral part of the casting. The examples relate to the production of boxes and hollow spheres.
