Abstract
1332404 Graft polymer BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [4 March 1970] 22909/71 Heading C3G Impact - resistant thermoplastic moulding materials are prepared by polymerizing a mixture of 90 to 60 parts by weight of a vinylaromatic monomer, 10 to 40 parts by weight of acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile, and 0 to 20 parts by weight of at least one other comonomer in the presence of 2 to 20 parts by weight of a rubber, based on 100 parts by weight of monomers, said rubber consisting of a block or graft copolymer containing at least one polymethyl methacrylate block and at least one 1,3-diene polymer block. The said 1,3-diene is preferably butadiene, isoprene, 2,3-dimethylbutadiene or piperylene. The vinylaromatic is suitably styrene, alpha-methylstyrene, a nuclear alkylated styrene or a nuclear chlorinated styrene. The optional comonomer is suitably methyl methacrylate. In examples graft and block butadienemethyl methacrylate rubbers are dissolved in mixtures of styrene, acrylonitrile and ethylbenzene, small amounts of 2,6-ditertiarybutylpara-cresol and tertiary-dodecylmercaptan are added and the mixture is polymerized in six reaction zones at temperatures from 70‹ to 130‹ C. The resulting polymers are granulated and mixed with butyl stearate prior to extrusion moulding. Uses.-Moulding in form of films or sheeting having transparency and high gloss suitable for packaging.
