1332498 Restoring to shape J B HICKMAN 9 Feb 1972 [25 Nov 1970] 56566/70 Heading B3Q The pushing action of an hydraulic ram is converted into a pulling action by a cross-member which is movable along and crosswise of a post, the ram pushing between the post and one end of the cross-member for the other end of the cross-member to exert a pulling action. As applied to straightening vehicle frames and bodies, Fig. 1, the side members 11, 12 of the cross-member 6 pass each side of the post 1 through guide slots in a carrier 7 at each side of the post. Angle pieces 10 cover the slots and the carriers are suspended adjustably from a chain 8. The ram 18 is extended between the post 1 and one end 13 of the cross-member the active end of which applies tension to a chain, rope or hawser 20. In another form, Fig. 4, a socket 22 for the post is rigidly mounted on a beam 23 which also mounts a further socket 25 for a tie post 24. The post may be secured in any angular position in a cylindrical socket, Fig. 5, by means of a chain, a hook 35 on which engages the lower edge 34 of an inner sleeve 30 of the socket. In another form, Fig. 6 (not shown) struts (36) act between the post (1) and a foot-plate (37) which is chained to the socket. A vehicle may be chained direct to a socket, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the chain passing over an adjustable stand (41). The posts may be horizontal or inclined if suitably supported.
