Abstract

1332487 Releasable fastenings L GARDNER & SONS Ltd 29 Nov 1971 [24 Dec 1970] 61350/70 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] A nut 14 for an inaccessible position has a conical bearing face 21 adapted to be received in a conical recess 17 of a radially split clamp 13 having a tightening stud 19 and nut 20 disposed tangentially or chordally across the split 15 so that when the nut 20 is tightened the clamp 13 is contracted radially inwards to apply and wedging force on the nut 14 to tighten the latter. The nut may be castellated at 22 and locked against rotation by a split pin 23. The clamp may have a flat bearing face 16, or a second conical recess. The nut 14 and clamp 13 are used on a bolt 11 to secure a member 10 against rotation relative to the bolt, the nut 20 being arranged to be readily accessible by a tightening tool.
