Abstract

1331669 Fusible cut-outs TAKAMATSU DENKI SEISAKUSHO KK 8 Nov 1971 [2 Sept 1971] 51821/71 Heading H2G A fuse element 16 is formed by twisting together two or more fuse wires (of silver or copper) and then press rolling to produce flattening. The flattening effect may be greatest at the centre part of the element decreasing towards the ends or may be slight at the ends and centre and increased continuously towards the centre of each half. Fig. 1 shows two such elements in an exploded view of a fuse having a hollow ridged insulating core 2 with end members 3, the elements being wound around 2 and having their ends fixed by tongues 5 and 8 of the end members 3 which with the core 2 and the fuse elements are enclosed in a tube 14 and secured to end caps 10. The tube may be of resin, porcelain, glass, fibre or paper, &c. and is filled with silica sand or magnesia. A coloured indicator 18 is ejected by a spring 23 when part of a resistor wire fuses on blowing of the main fuse elements 16. The fuse element may have a low melting point alloy portion surrounded by an arc quenching sleeve of polytetrafluorethylene.
