1331476 Blind stitching UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO 2 Dec 1970 [3 Dec 1969] 57335/70 Heading D1G Mechanism for forming nodes in work pieces being advanced through the stitch forming region of a blindstitch sewing machine comprises a pair of adjacent reciprocatory housings 74, 88 having openings in their adjacent sides in which are slidably and eccentrically mounted spring urged work engaging elements 70, 73 with adjacent surfaces 65 which are slidable on one another. The forces of the springs 68, 100, are independantly adjustable by knurled wheel 84 and nuts 99 on the stems of the elements 70, 73. The housings and elements 73, 70 are reciprocated in opposite senses by arms 63, on a shaft 49, and 62, on a sleeve (61) mounted on the shaft 49. The shaft 49 and sleeve (61) are oscillated in opposite senses by linkage (Figs. 8, 9 not shown) from a shaft 23 which is oscillated (Fig. 2, not shown) through a pitman 20 from an eccentric 17 rotated by a belt 13 at half the speed of the main shaft 10. Work Support. The work is supported by a table 9/53 which is pivotable on a pivot shaft (39) (Fig. 2) for replacing a workpiece and adjustable by means of a control knob (33) acting through a threaded member 31, a lever 28 and a rod 35. The work is urged against a fixed upper work foot by a pair of rollers (118) and 118a mounted adjacent the node-forming elements on arms 116 urged upwardly by torsion springs 120.
