Abstract

1331173 Two-part couplings A REINING- HAUS [trading as REININGHAUS & CO] 7 Dec 1971 [8 Dec 1970] 56818/71 Heading H2E A hollow carrier rail A for lighting apparatus has phase conductors R, S, T and a neutral conductor Mp mounted in insulating supports D, an earthing bar 23 located in a lateral wall portion of the rail adjacent the opening thereof and projecting into the hollow interior of the rail, and a connection box B having an earth contact member 22 a portion 22a of which extends through an aperture 48 in the box to slidably contact the bar 23 under the action of a spring 50 in the box; the box having spring contact tongues (16-19) for engaging the conductors R, S, T, Mp and retaining tongues 14, 15 supported along a straight line in undercut grooves 46 of the rail for mounting the box in the rail, a projecting strip 53 engaging a groove 51 in the rail to ensure correct orientation. The box comprises two shells joined by bolts 13 and houses a switch (E) and a selector (39, Fig. 3, not shown). In use the selector (39) is positioned so that a chosen one phase will be connected to the lighting apparatus (C) and the head part B<SP>1</SP> of the box is inserted into the rail with the earth contact 22 sliding against the bar 23, the switch (E), knob (20) and shaft (21) are rotated so that the retaining and contact tongues (16-19) are moved by eccentrics (24, 25) into engagement with beads 46a of the grooves 46 and the bars R, S, T, Mp respectively, for mechanical support and electric contact.
