Abstract

1331083 Chenille yarns UNITED MERCHANTS & MFRS Inc 3 July 1970 [25 Aug 1969] 32402/70 Heading D1W In apparatus such as described in U.S.A. Specification 3362146, for making fancy e.g. patterned chenille, yarns wherein individual yarn forming units are mounted along the length of an elongated frame, each unit comprises a mechanism for encircling parallel warp threads with a weft thread, a roller arrangement for maintaining the warp threads in spaced apart relationship and enabling an independently driven rotary knife to be shifted laterally therebetween to cut the weft thread, a pair of take-up spindles, individually controllable drive including an electric motor transmitting by adjustable sheaves and belt and gearing to the warp-encircling mechanism takeup spindles and roller arrangement. Binder threads are supplied to the latter and the spindles are rotated to secure the severed weft threads between warp and binder threads. Each warp thread encircling mechanism includes a hollow stationary former member having an outer tongue end through which warp threads are fed, a rotary spindle coaxially disposed on the former member and carrying the weft-thread supplying cop, and a rotary cylindrical housing which extends over the cap to confine unwinding weft thread therewithin; and the open tongue end has means for directing the weft into its encircling engagement with the warp threads issuing therefrom.
