Abstract

1330742 Keyboards CREED & CO Ltd 5 Aug 1971 36835/71 Heading G4H In a telegraphic keyboard piezo-electric transducers are mounted in resilient electrically insulating material and selectively energized to give a coded electrical output by respective codebars. In Fig. 1 in response to depression of a key lever 1 having a unique pattern of notches, all code-bar actuators (not shown) are energized, only those code-bars beneath notches in the operated key lever, e.g. 3 and not 2, move to operate associated transducer 5. Each transducer comprises a piezo-electric crystal disc 6 sandwiched between metal cylinders and 8, the anvil 7 being smaller than the backstop 8. An array of transducers is enclosed in electrically insulating resilient material, e.g. rubber, in a housing, through which the projections on the metal cylinder 7 protrude. The resilient material may be in the form of plates (Fig. 2, not shown) or alternatively may in the construction of the keyboard be poured around the transducers and allowed to set.
