Abstract
1330150 Molecular pumps SARGENT-WELCH SCIENTIFIC CO 21 Oct 1970 [27 Oct 1969] 49862/70 Heading F1C An impeller assembly of an axial-flow molecular pump, comprises of series of rotor elements 42, Fig.3, having annular surfaces 80, 82 thereon which are forced into abutment by a clamping nut 56 screwed on to shaft 52. The elements are of reduced axial thickness at their central portions to ensure abutment is confined to surfaces 80, 82. The blades of some of the elements each comprise three sections 98, 100, 102 each having a working face (106), Fig. 4 (not shown), inclined to the plane of rotation, whereas the blades of the other elements each have a working face formed only at the tip portion 108 thereof. The blades may be integrally formed with their associated hubs, or have root portions engaged in splined or T-shaped grooves in the hubs. The assembly may be of the double ended type and comprise a similar series of rotor elements at the other end of the shaft 52, the two series being spaced apart by sleeve 62. Such an assembly is arranged in a casing having an inlet between the two series and a respective outlet at the remote end of each series, the casing also having bladed stator elements located between adjacent rotor elements, Fig. 1 (not shown).
