Abstract
1329717 Transistor wide band amplifiers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Oct 1970 [25 Oct 1969] 50207/70 Heading H3T In a wide band amplifier of the type in which the emitter-base path of a transistor T 2 is connected in the manner shown across the collector-base path of a transistor T 1 of complementary type, a further transistor T 3 has its collector connected to the connection between collector and emitter of T 1 and T 2 and its base connected to the collector of T 2 . The connection of T 2 to T 1 maintains the collectorto-emitter and thus collector-to base voltage of T 1 constant to reduce the effect of collectorbase capacitance, and T 3 allows a large offset between input and output voltages so that when (as shown) the amplifier is used in a differential circuit, large common mode variations can be accommodated. T 2 may be of lateral type and shunted by a small capacitor to comprise the high frequency performance, the effective value of the capacitor being increased by the Miller connection to T 3 . The two halves of the amplifier are provided with current sinks T 6 , T 6 <SP>1</SP> biased from a diode connected transistor T 7 and a capacitor C c provides a high frequency connection between T 3 and T 3 <SP>1</SP>, T 3 and T 4 form an amplifier having a gain proportional to the relative areas of the emitter-base diodes. The connection between the collector of T 2 and base of T 3 may include an emitter follower (T 5 , Fig. 2, not shown).
