Abstract
1329634 Soldering PIRELLI GENERAL CABLE WORKS Ltd 21 March 1972 [14 April 1971] 9405/71 Heading B3R [Also in Division H2] A method of securing an aluminium or aluminium alloy conductor to a terminal or connector comprises the steps of crimping a portion of the terminal or connector around the cable and then soldering an exposed region of the conductor to the terminal using a fluxless solder. Two conductors 32, 34 have their ends crimped at 37, 38 in a connector which may be of aluminium, copper, copper alloy or a copper/ aluminium bimatal. A "V"-shaped cut is made in the connector and in the underlying cable ends and solder 42 is applied. Preferred solders include mixtures of zinc, aluminium and tin with abrasive particles. The method may be used for T-joint connectors and also for a terminal (Fig. 1, not shown) formed with a lug (18) having an aperture for connection to a post, an oblique cut (24) being made to remove an end uncrimped portion and the underlying conductor and the cut being covered with fluxless solder (26).
