Abstract
1329254 Oral preparations COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO 3 May 1971 [4 June 1970 27 Nov 1970] 27027/70 and 56576/70 Heading A5B Oral preparations comprise, as a non-toxic antibacterial agent an aminocyano polymeric diguanide or a mixture of such polymers having the formula wherein Y represents NH 2 (CH 2 ) 6 - or X represents -NH 2 or and n is an integer from 2 to 6, or a salt, e.g. a fluoride, chloride, nitrate, sulphate, succinate, tartrate, citrate, maleate or methosulphate, or mixture of salts of such polymer or polymers; and, as a vehicle for the antibacterial agent, a mixture of water and alcohol or a solid waterinsoluble dental polishing material. The preparations may be in the form of a dentifrice such as a toothpaste, dental cream, tooth powder or liquid dentifrice, a mouthwash or rinse, dental chewing gum, dental floss, tablet, lozenge or troche. The preparations may also contain a fluorine-providing compound such as sodium fluoride, stannous fluoride or sodium monofluorophosphate; a surface active agent, preferably an anionic surface active agent such as sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium N-lauroyl sarcosinate, or a nonionic surface active agent such as condensates of ethylene oxide with sorbitan monostearate, or condensates of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide with propylene glycol, or an amphoteric agent such as quaternized imidazole derivatives; a humectant such as glycerine, sorbitol or propylene glycol; a gelling agent such as hydroxyethyl cellulose or carboxymethyl-cellulose; an additional antibacterial agent such as 1,6-di-(p-chlorophenyl biguanidohexane); a colouring or whitening agent; a preservative such as sodium benzoate; a silicone; a chlorophyll compound; an ammoniated material such as urea and/or diammonium phosphate; a flavouring and/or sweetening material, e.g. sodium saccharin. The polishing material may be insoluble sodium metaphosphate, dicalcium phosphate (dihydrate or anhydrous), alumina, calcium carbonate, tetrasodium, pyrophosphate, silica, and/or polymethyl methacrylate.
