1329084 Machines for attaching fasteners to garments THOMAS WALKER Ltd 6 Nov 1970 [6 Aug 1969] 39288/69 Heading A3H [Also in Division B4] A machine for attaching pronged fastener members of garment fasteners to garment material, e.g. the made-up pocket of a trouser waist band comprises downwardly facing upper dies 38a provided on the lower surface of a mandrel arm 136a for receiving backing plates (not shown) and upwardly facing lower dies (50) (Fig. 1, not shown) for receiving pronged fastener members (not shown). The mandrel 136 is carried by a block 121 which is pivoted at 122 to a lever 125. The lever 125 is pivoted at 126 to a block 127 rigidly secured to the base of the machine. A link bar 130 is pivotally connected at 131, 132, to the blocks 121, 127 respectively. When it is desired to fit a waistband over the mandrel arm 136a, depression of a foot-activated lever will cause anti-clockwise pivoting of lever 144 about its pivot 143 and consequent movement of the mandrel to the position indicated in broken lines (Fig. 3). The lever 125 may be balanced so that it returns to its operative, full line position by gravity or alternatively, or additionally, a suitable bias spring 140 may be fitted. The machine operates to attach the fastener members to the waist band, and the backing plates and fastener members are fed to the respective dies in a manner similar to that disclosed in respect of the embodiment of Figs. 1-8 of Specification No. 1,174,986. In an alternative arrangement the dies carrying the pronged fastener members are positioned above the mandrel which will then have the dies 38a in its upper surface. The mandrel and block 121 may be urged clockwise by a spring (not shown) about pivot 122 up to a limit imposed by the link bar 130. This provides a spring loading of the block 121 on the arm 125. In a further arrangement the mandrel may be mounted on a carriage which reciprocates between an operative and an inoperative position.
