1328823 Kiln furniture J HEWITT & SON (FENTON) Ltd 26 Oct 1971 [15 Dec 1970] 59422/70 Heading F4B A support on which hollow-ware may be stacked during firing is formed with a plurality of depressions 10 in its upper surface, each for receiving an item of hollow-ware 18, the thickness of the support being substantially constant over a major part thereof so that the spaces around the projections on the lower surface of the support corresponding to the depressions in the upper surface may accommodate the rims of ware located vertically below the ware on the support. Each support may be provided with three legs 12, 14, etc., each having a socket 22 and a peg 20, whereby the supports may be stacked vertically one above another. The vertical spacing of the supports may be varied to accommodate different heights of hollow-ware by means of spacers 26. The pegs 28 of the spacers may be shorter than the depth of the support sockets 22 so that the underside of the main body of a spacer contacts the surface of the support on which it is mounted. The support pegs 20 may be of smaller cross-section than the spacer sockets in order to provide lateral clearance around the peg which, in combination with the gap 30 between each leg and spacer, has a shrouding effect and prevents the glazing atmosphere of the kiln from reaching, and sealing, the joint between leg and spacer. Each socket may be provided with a slot 24 to receive dirt falling into the socket.
