Abstract

1328754 Centrifugal fans SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 June 1972 [5 March 1971] 6064/71 Heading F1C A fan apparatus for providing two separate gas flows comprises a motor 1 having a shaft 2 extending from one end 3 thereof and on which are mounted first and second single-inlet centrifugal fan rotors 6, 16 within respective volute casings 7, 17, fan 16 being capable of providing a larger gas throughput than fan 6. The inlet 8 to volute 7 encompasses motor end 3 such that fan 6 draws a flow of cooling air through the motor. The inlet 18 to volute 17 faces in the opposite direction and guides hot air from a central heating system to fan 16. The tangential outlets (21), 22 of the respective volutes 7, 17 are disposed at right angles to each other, Fig. 2 (not shown). The end walls 9, 19 of the volutes may be bolted to each other or only a single wall 19 provided. Wall 19 resiliently supports motor 1 via brackets 20. The fan rotors 6, 16 are cylindrical having a ratio of blade axial lengths of 1 to 4 and of diameters of 15 to 37.
