Abstract

1328435 Spherical particles SOC DE FABRICATION D'ELEMENTS CATALYTIQUES 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 23325/71 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C1 and G6] Spherical particles are prepared from powder by disposing cores of the powder on a vibrating screen of mesh larger than the fines of the powder but smaller than the cores and continuously dropping or projecting fines of the powder on to the cores on the screen, thereby increasing the size of the cores. The fines may be projected on to the cores by disposing the screen in a container containing the fines and subjecting the container to repeated impacts. Alternatively, the fines may be dropped on to the cores from a second vibrating screen held over the first screen. The cores may have been obtained by compacting fines of the powder e.g. to a size of 40-800 8 and a S.A. of 2 m<SP>2</SP>/g, under a pressure of 100-2000 bars, and then force screened to a predetermined size. The screening residues e.g. 10-50 Á, may be recycled to the compaction step or as fines to the spheroidization step, after pulverization if necessary.
