Abstract
1328167 Gas turbine rotor blades ROLLSROYCE (1971) Ltd 15 June 1972 [10 June 1971] 28631/71 Heading FIT A rotor blade for a gas turbine engine includes at least one layer 17, 19 of unidirectional fibres respectively disposed adjacent each blade flank 14, 15, the fibres of the respective layers being disposed at angles of plus and minus # to the blade axis such that under centrifugal force the layers distort to cause the blade pitch to vary. The blade core has relatively small resistance to torsion and may comprise layers 18 of unidirectional fibres extending parallel or normal to the blade axis, or combinations of such fibres. Alternatively the core layers may be omitted. The fibres may be of carbon, boron or glass in a resin or metallic matrix. The blade may be arranged to increase or decrease in pitch with increasing speed.
