Abstract

1328011 Foundry - mould compositions WHITEHEAD BROS CO 19 April 1971 [15 April 1970] 25634/71 Heading C3N A green foundry-moulding composition comprises foundry-sand uniformly admixed with an aqueous solution of a solid resinous material formed on heating resorcinol. The resinous material comprises trihydroxy diphenyl and has ring-and-ball softening point 80-88‹ C. and isopropanol solubility 94-98À5. The resinous material is that referred to as "RM 441" in U.S.A. Specification 2,753,312. The composition may comprise by weight 1-5 parts solution per 100 parts sand. The solution may contain 0À01-0À25 parts LiOH, NaOH, or KOH per part resinous material, and may contain 0À35-99 parts resinous material per part water. Also present may be bentonite, ilmenite, or kaolinite. The foundry-sand may be quartz, zircon, or olivene of particle size 6-270 mesh USSS. The composition may be pressuremoulded at 100-500 p.s.i.
