Abstract
1328088 Solubilized alginic material WALLACE CAMERON & CO Ltd 23 Sept 1970 [27 Sept 1969] 47642/69 Heading C3U A solubilized alginic material is prepared by reacting a soluble sodium, potassium or ammonium alginate with an ionic compound of Cu, Ag, Hg, Cd, Mg, Zn, Fe, B or Al, to replace some of the Na, K or NH 4 ions. The soluble alginate may be sodium alginate or calcium sodium alginate. The ionic compound may be zinc sulphate, silver nitrate or aluminium hydroxide. The reaction may be carried out in an alcohol/water mixture, the ratio alcohol : water preferably being 80 : 20. The alcohol may be isopropanol or industrial methylated spirits. The product may be used in sheet, fibre, woven, gauze or powder form.
