Abstract
1328050 Boots &c S SHIMIZU 25 July 1972 34771/72 Heading A3B A heated article of footwear includes a ventilated insole 4 which is spaced from the sole 2 to form a chamber and a heating unit 10 located in the heel end of the chamber. The insole 4 is made of perforated metal and is covered by an insock 6 of mesh fabric. The insole 4 is spaced from the sole 2 by projections 7 in the forepart region and by a supporting frame 8 in the heel region. The heel end of the insole 4 may be lifted as shown to insert or remove the heating unit 10. Alternatively the heating unit 10 may be inserted through a hole (not shown) in the heel end of the upper or through a hole in the heel itself. The heating unit 10 may be located by projections 12a, 12b on the insole 4 and sole 2 respectively or may be partially or wholly accommodated in a recess in the heel. The heating unit 10 may be a "pocket" heater consisting of a metal container filled with asbestos which is soaked with a volatile oil which is ignited.
