Abstract
1327378 Terminal boxes JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 8 Dec 1970 [11 Sept 1969] 44840/69 Heading H2E A terminal box 10, formed in two halves 12, 13, comprises a partition 14 defining two compartments 15, 16, the compartment 16 containing a heat resistant and electrically insulating block 19 which has secured to it terminal assemblies, some of which extend through the partition to support the block, the rest of compartment 16 being closely filled with heat resistant and electrically insulating material e.g. aluminium oxide powder. The terminal box assembly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, for use with thermocouple elements, comprises two adjacent terminal boxes 10, 11 with their halves 13 formed as one piece. Output terminal assemblies 21 each comprise a post (28, Fig. 4, not shown), secured by means of a hollow rivet (27) to the block 19, and an insulating bush 32, which is secured to the partition 14 and located between a flange (31) on the post and a threaded sleeve 33 welded to the post. Nuts 34 on the sleeves 33 engage straps 35 which interconnect terminal assemblies 21 associated with thermocouple elements of the same material. The posts (28), sleeves 33, nuts 34 and straps 35 are themselves all made of the same material as the thermocouple elements to which they are connected. Input terminal assemblies 20 each comprise a pair of conductive washers (24, 25, Fig. 3, not shown) held against opposite faces of the block 19 by insulating bushes (22, 23) secured to the block by a hollow rivet (26). Connections to the washers (24, 25) are made by welding or wrapping leads around the bushes (22, 23) during assembly. Resistance windings 36 are provided between the input and output terminal assemblies. The washers (24, 25) and the windings 36 are each made of the same material as the thermocouple element to which they are connected i.e. Alumel (Registered Trade Mark) and Chromel respectively. The position 14 is held in the container by a threaded pillar 17 and an insulating spacer 18, the pillar also securing halves 12, 13 together. Leads 37 and 38, connected to output terminal assemblies 21, form part of an output cable 39. After assembly the heat resistant and electrically insulating material is introduced into the boxes through holes which are then sealed by discs 40 welded into position.
