Abstract
1327011 Flavanthrene BADISCHE ANILIN - & SODA-FABRIK AG 6 Jan 1971 [7 Jan 1970] 573/71 Heading C4P Flavanthrenes having the formula wherein X is a hydrogen or halogen atom, are obtained by subjecting a 2,2<SP>1</SP>-diacylamino-1,1<SP>1</SP>- dianthraquinonyl of formula where R is an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms or an unsubstituted aryl group, to intramolecular condensation under the action of H 2 SO 4 having a concentration of 80-100% by wt. The treatment is advantageously carried out at 20-70‹ C., the dianthraquinonyl derivative preferably being added to 93-99% sulphuric acid to give a pink solution which is stirred until an intense red solution is obtained which vats with a blue colour. The solution is then poured into water to precipitate the flavanthrene. The products are yellow vat dyes.
