Abstract

1326943 Abrasive tools H C FISCHER and H C FISCHER JNR 6 Aug 1970 [4 Sept 1969] 37950/70 Heading B3D [Also in Divisions A6 E1 and F2] A method of prestressing a grinding wheel comprises the use of one or more elements of a synthetic organic plastics fibrous material, e.g. nylon, which is capable of an at least partially recoverable elongation of at least 5%, which elements are elongated by at least 5% and anchored to the wheel. In the embodiment shown the wheel has a body portion 72 compound of abrasive grains or particles in a resin binder with a helically wrapped reinforcement 74 of polyester, stretched initially to a length between 5 and 10% greater than its stable, relaxed length.
