Abstract

1326871 Latches ARN KIEKERT SOHNE 3 Jan 1972 [26 Jan 1971 18 May 1971] 48/72 Heading E2A A door latch for a motor vehicle comprises a forked latch bolt 2 carried in bearings in a latch casing 1 and interactable with a detent 3, on external operating lever 3 for the detent 3, on interior door operating lever 5 and an interior locking lever 6, the detent 3 being a rotatable peg having a notch 7 for interaction with the arms 8 of the latch bolt 2, these arms 8 being provided with contact surfaces 10 and the outside edges of the arms 8 next to the notch 7 being made as curved contact surfaces 9 by means of which the detent 3 and with it a control lever 12 which is solid with it, are movable such that when the door is open the interior locking lever 6 is directly or indirectly prevented from moving. In the embodiment of Figures 1-4 the detent 3 is made spherical or round and is provided with a cone 18 having tooth-like grooves 19 which are pressed into a hole 13 in the control lever 12 and secured there by rivetting. The interior locking lever 6 has a notch 14 which interacts with a nose 15 bent up on the external operating lever 4, and the lever 6 also has a locking arm 16 which interacts with the control lever 12 in such a way that when the door latch is open the operation of the locking lever 6 is blocked. Springs (not shown) are provided to secure the ports of the latch as necessary. During a closing operation a striker pin (not shown) engages between the arms 8 and presses the latch bolt 2 against the detent 3, the arms 8 engaging behind the detent 3 and holding the door latch first in the safety latching position and then in the fully latched position. In the embodiment of Figures 5, 6 the control lever 12 has a bent-up part 20 which with the door open is positioned by the arms 8. The control lever 12 has a nose 22 which works in conjunction with a slot 23 in the latch casing 1 to act as a stop in the fully latched position and also in the safety latched position. In this embodiment the interior locking action can take place in the safety latching position but in the embodiment of Figures 7, 8 (not shown) the interior locking action can only take place in the fully latched position. The detent (3) and the latch bolt (2) are so designed that at the fully latched contact surface a stop (21) is provided for limiting the rotary movement of the detent (3), and the detent (3) is held by this stop in the defined position.
