Abstract

1326762 Composite rivets TEXTRON Inc 26 Aug 1970 40959/70 Heading F2H A composite rivet has before deformation head 3 and shank 4 portions of metal with relatively high shear and tensile strengths and a tail portion 5 of a relatively ductile material fast at an interface with shank reaction. The interface between the sections may be flat (Figs. 1, 2, not shown) domed (Figs. 3, not shown, and 4) or cylindrical (Fig. 5, not shown) with the shank extending through the tail. The two sections may be of the same alloy but heat-treated differently to give the different properties before being welded together, or may be of different chemical compositions. The examples of materials used are chiefly titanium alloys or steels and also pure titanium, vanadium and molybdenum.
