1326638 Tile moulding apparatus NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT STROITELNOI KERAMIKI NIISTROIKEBAMIKA 9 Oct 1970 48120/70 Heading B5A Encaustic tiles are formed from powder in apparatus comprising filling, moulding and article removal means, means to convey moulds through a number of processing stations, templets to control distribution of different powders in the moulds in the desired pattern, means to insert the templets into the mould and remove it therefrom, and guide means to align the moulds with the means inserting the templets. As shown in Fig. 1, moulds 3 move on rollers (8, Figs. 2, 3, not shown) and are guided by rollers 10 on opposite sides of a rectangular path, the ends of which comprise chain conveyers 9. The moulds 3 having templets 5 therein are filled at station 2, the templet 5 is removed by mechanism 4, the powder is levelled and mould is cleaned by blade 29 and brush 30 of mechanism 6, the powder is compacted by press 1, the moulded tile is ejected and delivered by mechanism 7, the mould is cleaned again by mechanism 6 and the templet 5 is replaced by mechanism 4 for a further cycle. Filling.-Components from hoppers 10a (also Fig. 3, not shown) are fed through carriage 14, batcher plate 12 having ports (13) via a gate valve 15 and spouts (16) to the moulds 3 according to the pattern of template 5, members 14, 15 being operated by cam member 49. Template mechanism 4 comprises a trolley (17 Fig. 2, not shown) reciprocated on guide (18) by cam 49. The trolley (17) carries a plate (21) having pins (22) to align the mechanism with holes 25 in the moulds 3 and an electromagnet (20). The plate (21) is raised or lowered by cams (24) and the template 5 inserted in or removed from the mould 3 by means of electromagnet (20). Ejection and delivery mechanism 7 comprises grippers 32 fixed to a rod 33 and vertically reciprocated by cam 34. The moulds pass into the slots of grippers 32 and are raised against a punch 36 on a plate 35 having pins 37 aligned with holes 25 in the moulds 3. The moulded tiles are knocked out thereby on to a tray 39 mounted on trolley 40 which is reciprocated on guides 41 by cam 42. The tiles are then fed to a delivery conveyer belt 43 tensioned by weight 44.
