Abstract

1326665 Photo-electric testing NATIONAL REJECTORS Inc GmbH 29 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 35588/71 Heading G1A In a method or apparatus for monitoring an inclusion of fluorescent material in a sheet of paper 1 Fig.3 moved past a light source 2 capable of exciting the material which may be particles into fluorescence for the purpose, for example, of currency validating, the fluorescence emitted from the side of the paper remote from the irradiating lamp is photo-electrically monitored Appropriate filters 6, 7, 10, 13 are included whereby a narrow band width of the incident light is applied for irradiation, and a narrow bandwidth of the fluorescent light is applied to the detectors 8 and 11. Photo-detectors 14 is provided to measure the transmissivity of the paper and its output is applied through an amplitude discriminator to provide an additional validating factor. The output of fluorescence detecting cells 8, 11 is applied to a coincidence circuit and the pulses are counted to produce an accept or reject signal. The investigated areas may be narrow strips along or across the sheet and the particles may be fibres. The period of afterglow may be monitored.
