Abstract
1326465 Separation of 2,3,6-trimethylphenol CONSOLIDATION COAL CO 5 July 1971 [23 July 1970] 31339/71 Heading C2C A method of recovering 2,3,6-trimethylphenol from a mixture consisting essentially of 2,3,6-trimethylphenol and 2,4,6-trimethylphenol comprises subjecting said mixture to sulphonation whereby the 2,3,6-trimethylphenol is selectively converted to its 4-sulphonic acid derivative, separating said sulphonic acid derivative from 2,4,6-trimethylphenol by dissolving said derivative in water, hydrolysing said derivative and recovering 2,3,6 - trimethylphenol.
