Abstract

1326039 Jacks MATAIRO S A 14 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969 9 Oct 1970] 48869/70 Heading F1P An hydraulic jack 1 is controlled by a pump 3 which communicates therewith via valves 5, 6, and 10, a conduit 11 and a non-return valve 12, a conduit 8 connecting the pump to the smaller area side of a differential piston valve 9 having a projection for holding valve 12 open. Valves 10, 13 work in sympathy through a piece 15 such that when one is closed the other is open, these being controlled by a screw 4. To expand the jack 1, screw 4 renders valves 10, 13 open and closed respectively. Pump 3 delivers fluid to both sides of valve 9 so that it moves downwardly and valve 12 is held open by fluid pressure which thus expands the jack 1. To contract the jack the screw 4 is moved so that the valves 10, 13 are closed and open respectively. The valve 9 only experiences pressure on its lower side and thus moves upwardly to hold the valve 12 open. Fluid can thus flow from the jack via conduit 11 and valve 13 to a reservoir 14 thus contracting the jack 1. A double-acting piston-and-cylinder jack is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown), in which a branch conduit from the conduit 8 is connected to the opposite side of the piston from the valve 12. In a further doubleacting type a non-return valve and associated actuator are located in the branch conduit, Figs. 4 to 10 (not shown), the jack being used for the tipper cab of a lorry.
