Abstract

1325717 Container carriers ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 16 Dec 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 59743/70 Heading A4G A plastics carrier for a container 12, Fig.1A, e.g. a jar, beaded can or an inverted bottle, comprises a resiliently deformable endless elliptical band 14, Fig.2, with an integral U-shaped bail 16 connected to the band by ports 20 overlapping the minor axis B-B but lying principally on one side of the axis, the bail, when in an inoperative position and lying co-planar with the band. The carrier may be moulded or punched from a continuous flat strip, the carriers being separated at portions 44, and the bails further connected to the band at part 24 which is broken via slits 26. The band embraces a groove 50 in the jar and the bail is flexed through 90 degrees to dotted position 16' by bending at 21 to carry the jar vertically. The slot 32 may be recessed at 40 at the bending end on both faces of the plastics material to strengthen the flexure point 23. In a further embodiment the auxiliary connection 24 is omitted and the bail connecting parts 20 formed with blunt nose portions in the ends of the bail arms extending leftwards of narrower band connecting ports.
