1325644 Selective signalling E J SWEENY 3 March 1972 [3 March 1971] 10160/72 Heading G4H [Also in Division A6] Scoring equipment for sporting contests involving two or more contestants comprises a plurality of judging stations from which the contest may be seen, each judging station having means for awarding points to each contestant to produce electric signals indicative of the points, first counting means for each contestant for totalling the points awarded, and a scoreboard for displaying the totals, whereby spectators can follow the progress of the contest. Three judging stations for a boxing match are sound-proofed boxes facing respective sides of the boxing ring, and each containing a toggle switch for each boxer. A control console includes six counters with display, i.e. one per judging station per boxer to total the pulses from the respective toggle switch. The pulses to a given counter also advance a respective steping switch. The three stepping switches for a given boxer each connect up to three equal resistors in series into one arm of an electrical bridge respective to the boxer, so that when a total of three pulses has been received, an SCR detector across the bridge supplies a pulse to increment the scoreboard display and reset the stepping switches. The scoreboard shows the scores on arrays of lamps, and may have four sides. The round and time are similarly displayed under control of switches on the console and a horn is also provided. Lights on two of the ring corner posts may be lit when only a predetermined amount of time remains in the round, and may flash on and off even closer to the end of the round. Application to wrestling, diving and precision figure skating is also mentioned.
