Abstract

1325203 Car carpets DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 2 Sept 1971 [5 Sept 1970] 42625/70 Heading A4S U-section edge portions 7, at the periphery of a moulded car carpet, and around apertures 6 therein for the passage of controls, have an end 8 which is in contact with the car floor, so that slipping and folding at the edge of the carpet are prevented. The carpet consists of a pile of nylon fibres secured by an adhesive layer 13 to a mouldable thermoplastics backing 5 which is produced in lengths by depositing polyethylene powder on a compressed needled felt melting the polyethylene and applying thereto a stockinette fabric. Polyvinyl chloride adhesive 13 is applied to the stockinette and the nylon fibres deposited thereon by an electro-static flocking process. A rectangular blank of carpet material cut from the length, is heated and pressed to the required shape between mould parts excess material being trimmed off to leave the U-section at the edge. At abuted edge portions the nylon fibres interlock to secure the edge portions together.
