Abstract

1325131 Centrifugal pumps SETHCO MFG CORP 10 Feb 1972 [16 Feb 1971] 6181/72 Heading F1C [Also in Division H2] A pump and filter unit comprises a filter 51 for filtering liquid from the pump outlet 44, and an impeller 33 arranged to be driven by a motor through a magnetic coupling comprising driving and driven magnets 24, 28 respectively separated by a portion 20 which defines a chamber 27 in which the driven magnet 28 is housed and into which filtered liquid is introduced. Magnet 28 and centrifugal impeller 33 are mounted on shaft 31 supported by bearings 34 in plate 18. Liquid leaving the pump outlet passes through filter 51 and the majority to outlet 56. Some filtered liquid flows via bore 60, tubing 67 and tube 62 to a chamber 63 which communicates with the pump inlet through an annular opening 66 surrounding the shaft 31, and with chamber 27 through holes 64 in plate 18. This arrangement prevents solid particles in the unfiltered liquid at the pump inlet reaching the chamber 27 and jamming the driven magnet.
