Abstract
1325095 Changing fuel gas in compound coke ovens; coke oven reversing valves KOPPERS CO Inc 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24462/71 Headings F4B and F4K In a compound regenerative coke oven, the air valves, waste gas valves and lean gas valves are operated from a main reversing shaft 11, Fig. 1. The waste gas valves and one set of air valves 19 are operated by a linkage 15 from an arm 13 secured to the shaft 11. The air valves 25 and gas valves 37 for the lean gas regenerators are operated by linkages 21, 23 and 31, 35 respectively from sleeves 27, 33 on the shaft 11. The sleeves 27, 33 have slots 29, 30 and 39, 40 respectively. Sleeves 41, 61, 69 carry rollers 45, which engage with the slots in the sleeves 27, 33, and slide along the shaft under the control of a cylinder 53 and linkage 51, 47, 67, 71. The sleeves 41, 69 are held against rotation with the shaft 11, while the sleeve 61 is splined to the shaft 11 and rotates with it. In the position shown the lean gas valves 37 are held shut regardless of the movement of the reversing shaft, and the air valves 25 and 19 are operated by the shaft to give reversing operation with rich gas. A similar arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) controls the rich gas valves. Air restricting fingers to reduce the air flow through the regenerators when operating on rich gas, and clamps to ensure that the air valves are properly closed when appropriate are operated through sprockets secured to chains under the control of hydraulic cylinders (Figs. 3-5, not shown).
