Abstract
1324539 Evaporators ALFA LAVAL AB 22 Oct 1970 [23 Oct 1969] 50314/70 Heading B1B [Also in Division C5] Water is evaporated from aqueous soap by passing it via inlet 11 through alternate spaces 9 of a plate-type heat-exchanger wherein the plates 8 are divided into groups each provided with its own adjustable supply of heating steam to spaces 10, whereby the temperature of successive groups of plates diminishes in the direction of flow through the heat-exchanger. A mixture of concentrated soap and watervapour is discharged through outlet 12. The spaces 10 are fed with steam from pipelines 13 to 16, each of which has a manometer 17 and a control valve 18. The steam pressure in the corresponding groups of spaces 10 is adjusted to valves diminishing from left to right. Uncondensed steam is discharged from spaces 10 through pipelines 19 to 22, each provided with a condensate trap 23. Also described is an evaporator comprising a pipeline having a series of U-shaped bends, each straight section of the pipeline being surrounded by a heating jacket with its own supply of heating steam. The evaporation of rubber latex, milk and fruit juice is also referred to. In the case of fruit juice, the concentrated juice is allowed to flow out of the evaporator into a liquid/vapour separation vessel maintained under vacuum.
