Abstract

1324076 Endless conveyers DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 13 July 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 49340/69 Heading B8A Carved portions 12, 14, 17, 18 in the forward and return paths of an endless conveyer are supported along each edge by a guide means 19, 20. The guide means may comprise an appropriately curved plate (30), Fig. 2 (not shown), with a porous surface (32) adjacent the conveyer and a supply of pressurized air to create a gas cushion between the plate and the conveyer. The porous plate may be replaced by a hollow body with valve controlled operatives facing the conveyer. Alternatively the plate and the conveyer may have an anti-friction coating e.g. p.t.f.e. or may have magnetic surfaces of opposite polarity to produce a gap therebetween by magnetic repulsion. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the guide means comprises an auxiliary endless belt (35) passing around end rollers (36) and having a plurality of rollers (37) to curve that surface thereof in contact with the conveyer (10). The rollers (37) may be replaced by a fixed guide plate (40), Fig. 6 (not shown), with an anti-friction coating, an air cushion or magnetic repulsion similar to the plate (30). In a still further embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown) the guide means is in the form of an endless roller chain (45) with a fixed guide (47) bearing on the rollers to create the desired curvature. The links of the chain 45 may have brackets (49), Fig. 9 (not shown), to increase the area of contact between the chain and the conveyer or may carry slats (50).
