Abstract
1323507 Substituted phenolic sulphides GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 5 Oct 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 46332/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] In a two stage process for the preparation of a reaction product (1) the first stage comprises reacting a mixture comprising a phenolic reactant of the formula where R is selected from hydrogen straight- or branched-chain C 1-8 alkyl radicals, C 4-12 cycloalkyl radicals, C 7-12 aralkyl radicals and C 6-12 aryl radicals and sulphur mono- or dichloride or a mixture of both and (2) the second stage comprises reacting a mixture comprising the reaction product of the first stage and a tertiary olefine having 4 to 20 carbon atoms in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. The products are antioxidants for polymers (see Division C3). Examples are furnished.
