Abstract

1322971 Hardening photographic layers ILFORD Ltd 20 May 1971 [25 June 1970] 30957/70 Heading G2C [Also in Division C3] A photographic layer of a gelatino silver halide emulsion is hardened by treatment with a water-soluble polymer comprising units of the formula. derived from an isocyanato-ester monomer/ bisulphite addition compound, wherein R is H, C1 or methyl, M is an alkali metal and n is an integer from 2-14. The polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer additionally containing units of another monomer containing the group CH 2 = CR-, particularly monomers of the formula where M, R and n are as defined above. Hardening is accelerated by heating, e.g. at 50‹C. In Examples layers of coarse grained iodobromide and fine grained chlorobromide gelatine emulsions are used.
