Abstract

1321931 Grinding J & S WYLDE Ltd 10 May 1972 [10 May 1971] 13912/71 Heading B3D An overlay for the surface of a tool for grinding optical lens blanks comprises a sheet 18 of zinc perforated with a multiplicity of small holes 20 and having an adhesive coating on one side. The overlay may be applied to a convex or concave grinding surface and may have a circular or elliptical shape or the shape of a rectangle with well-rounded corners. The zinc may have a thickness of 30 to 35 s.w.g. and the perforations a diameter of 0À049 inch and spacing such that the holes cover 25% of the area of the overlay. A slot 34 is provided to assist fitting the overlay to the tool. With larger holes of 0À085 inch diameter and at a spacing to account for 50% of the area of the overlay, a slot is not necessary. With still larger holes a plurality of radial slots may be necessary. The adhesive coating on one side of the overlay may be protected, before use, by a paper covering.
