Abstract

1321261 Axial-flow fans WOODS OF COLCHESTER Ltd 13 Jan 1971 [20 Jan 1970] 2805/70 Heading F1C A fan blade, e.g. of plastics or metal sheet, has a cambered main portion and has a root portion having adjacent the trailing edge 6, Fig. 4 a sector-shaped bug 5 which has a protuding portion 9 having a sloping surface 10 which extends the camber of the blade into the root portion. The portion 9 is substantially V-shaped in cross-section, Fig. 5 (not shown). Several blades may each be secured to a central disc or annular to form an impeller. Alternatively, an additional sector-shaped lug 7 may be provided adjacent the leading edge 8, and several such blades may be spot welded or rivetted together as shown to form an impeller. The lugs 7 define a central opening 19 by which the impeller is mounted on a spigot portion of a hub 20. The spigot portion is thereafter deformed to form a radially-extending retaining flange (21), Fig. 7 (not shown), and to cause the spigot material to flow into notches 15 formed in the lugs 7. The impeller may be provided with a central fairing (25) attached to the hub.
