Abstract
1320186 Making tubes VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I KONSTRUKTORSKO - TEKHNOLOGICHESKY INSTITUT TRUBNOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI 24 Sept 1970 45491/70 Heading B3A A method of forming a tube from stainless steel initial tubes, longitudinally welded by inert gas-shielded arc-welding with non-consumable electrodes, comprises removing a layer not less than 0À2 mms. thick from the external surface of the seam, heat treating the tube to restore the composition of the seam metal to the composition prior to the arc-welding and heating the tube in a rolling mill line up to a temperature not higher than 300‹ C. and rolling, the decrease in the tube diameter being less than a value resulting in the formation of internal defects along the seam-main metal boundary and the wall thickness being reduced by at least 50%. In an example the initial tube is reduced by 12 to 15% before heat treatment in a protective atmosphere at 1070‹ to 1100‹ C. for at least 15 minutes, and coated with lubricant for rolling and dried. The rolled rubes are degreased, polished heated for at least 5 mins. at 1050‹ to 1060‹ C.
