Abstract

1319928 Credit cards; security paper &c LANDIS & GYR AG 14 Mareh 1972 [23 March 1971] 11797/72 Heading B6A A credit or identity card, travel ticket or bank note includes a film 2 carrying verifying information in the form of microscopic apertures 3, 4, 5. The apertures may be circular, square or oblong with straight or curved sides. Apertures 3 and 5 may represent coded information whilst apertures 4 are in 'the form of letters or figures, additional apertures 6 being provided to facilitate alignment of the card relative to a reading head. The film may be embedded in the paper skin of a card and may be a metal coated or coloured plastics film or a metal foil, e.g. of tantalum, silver or copper. The coded information may relate to the type of card or its colour, printing properties, e.g. the amount of misalignment between impressions on the front and back of a banknote, transmissivity or reflectivity together with information regarding the position at which these properties were evalue ated, verification of the card being effected by testing the relevant property at thesame position and checking with the coded information. The apertures, which may be formed by laser or electron beams may be read by light or beta rays. A test for the aperture size and film material, e.g. by ascertaining electrical conductivity of the material, may be used as a further verification. The apertures may extend through the film and card.
