Abstract

1319718 Diaphragm pumps E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970] 21008/71 Heading F1A A fluid-pressure-actuated diaphragm pump having a higher discharge pressure than the actuating fluid-pressure comprises, in a single-acting embodiment, Fig.1, a diaphragm 17 separating a pumping chamber 19 from an actuating chamber 21, and a diaphragm 18 with actuating chambers 20, 22 on either side, and connected to diaphragm 17 by rod 23, chamber 22 being pressurized to effect the suction stroke, and chambers 20 and 21 pressurized to effect the discharge stroke. Valve 16 controls the supply and exhaust of fluid e.g. compressed air, to and from the actuating chambers. In a double-acting embodiment, Fig.2, pumping chambers 61 to 64, and actuating chambers 57 to 60 are inter-connected in pairs as shown, and act such that actuating fluid-pressure in chamber 58 also acts through conduit 93 and chamber 59 to discharge liquid from chamber 63 into chamber 61, where it acts on diaphragm 53 to add to the pressure diaphragm 54 receives from chamber 58, and discharge liquid from chamber 62 at the elevated pressure.
