Abstract

1319395 Dredgers L L SCHNELL 29 Nov 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 55321/71 Heading E1F In apparatus in which material is raised through a dredge pipe 20 by pressurised fluid medium introduced at the lower end of the pipe, the upper end of the pipe is pivotally mounted in a support structure and the lower end of the pipe terminates in a head 36 having opposed intake openings 49, 51 and a pivoted scraper 46 that, when the pipe is being oscillated closes the trailing opening and directs material into the leading opening. The scraper 46 is pivoted on an apertured pipe 58 through which the fluid medium can enter the head. Oscillation of the pipe and the appropriate positioning of the scraper with respect to the head is controlled by jack-actuated cables 66, 68 connected to arms secured to opposed sides of the scraper. A flexible pipe length is included in the dredge pipe to permit of movement of the lower part of the pipe in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of pivotal movement of the pipe.
