Abstract

1319377 Alkylene glycol esters HENKEL & CIE GmbH 6 May 1971 [16 May 1970] 13494/71 Heading C2C Alkylene glycol monoesters of mono- and polyvalent aliphatic and cycloaliphatic carboxylic acids (4-26C) are prepared by reacting the acids with alkylene oxides in the presence of amines as catalysts. Amines of formula in which R 1 and R 2 represent hydrogen or aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic residues (1-24C) and R 3 an aliphatic residue which may be interrupted by heteroatoms e.g. oxygen, a cycloaliphatic or aromatic residue and many are listed. The acids may be butyric, cyclohexanecarboxylic, glutaric, adipic and fatty acids (8-24C) or mixtures thereof, and ethylene, propylene and butylene oxides, epichlorohydrin and/or glycide are the alkylene oxides. Examples describe the reaction of lauric, stearic, myristic, oleic, and glutaric acids with the various oxides using dimethyldodecylamine, hexamethylenediamine dimethyloctadecylamine, hexylamine, dibutylamine, and tetraethylenepentamine as catalysts.
