Abstract

1318851 Coating photographic film supports FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 7 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 868/71 Heading G2C A roughened, biaxially-stretched polystyrene film support is treated with ozone before applying a layer of a photographic suspension having a hydrophilic colloid binder, such as a silver halide emulsion layer, a diazo layer or a silver salt diffusion receptor layer. The support may contain a white or coloured pigment and may be roughened mechanically, or the support may be simultaneously roughened and opalized by treatment with a swelling organic solvent and then with a compatible organic solvent in which the polystyrene is insoluble. Alternatively a foaming agent may be used or the support may be moulded from a polystyrene containing a compound which can subsequently be eluted from the surface of the support. The binder of the hydrophilic layer may be gelatine, cellulose acetate maleate or a hydrophilic addition polymer.
