Abstract
1318512 Electric Level detectives GREATER LONDON COUNCIL 11 June 1970 [12 March 1969] 12996/69 Heading G1N Changes in level of an electrically conductive liquid or particulate solid material are detected by immercing a capacitive probe having one insulated and one uninsulated electrode in the liquid or material, the change in capacitance being utilized to provide a signal which is transmitted to a monitoring station. As shown, the probe includes an insulated central wire 31 and an uninsulated outer conductor 41. In alternatives, the central wire is uninsulated and the outer conductor is insulated, Fig.2 (not shown) and the uninsulated wire is provided to one side of a bank of insulated plates. In further alternatives, the capacitor is in the form of round wires or rectangular strips with spacers in brass or plastics tubes. Changes in capacitance either control, the frequency of an oscillator, the frequency signal then being transmitted via radio or ground link to a remote station, Fig. 1 (not shown), or the width of constant frequency pulses which are integrated to provide a D.C. voltage for meter indication, and to control a frequency generator to transmit the information to a remote station, Fig.4 (not shown).
